Cinematic AI · Fictional campaign
Ceremony.
AI-directed experimental short film and fictional luxury matcha campaign — quiet masculinity, ceremonial matcha, Tokyo.
The pitch
04 chaptersCeremony is an experimental AI-directed short film and fictional luxury beverage campaign. I wanted to push generative video beyond technical demo and treat it like a real cinematic production — directing camera movement, pacing, continuity, texture, lighting, sound and emotional realism shot by shot.
The project started from a simple observation: matcha is usually framed in a soft, wellness-driven aesthetic. I wanted to break that — place ceremonial matcha inside quiet masculinity, Tokyo street atmosphere, tattooed skin, silence, minimal dialogue, grounded cinematic realism. Matcha itself became a cinematic material: creamy textures, liquid physics, jade diffusion in milk, tactile realism.
Matcha itself became a cinematic material: creamy textures, liquid physics, jade diffusion in milk.
Narratively, the short walks through: traditional matcha preparation → a thick droplet forming → movement through a Tokyo café → emotional interaction between characters → a luxury rooftop reveal overlooking Tokyo. The final scene reframes the whole film as a fictional premium campaign for minimalist ceremonial matcha capsules.
The hardest part wasn't generating visuals. It was holding believable motion, liquid realism, physical continuity, emotional consistency and a coherent cinematic language across shots. A lot of the work became translating emotions and atmosphere into instructions precise enough for AI systems to read. I spent multiple iterations just trying to make matcha steam behave like real steam instead of smoke.

03 stepsKey learnings.
Prompting started feeling less like 'writing instructions' and more like directing, cinematography, visual system design, production planning.
Pacing, framing, continuity, realism and sound still matter — even more — inside an AI workflow.
Ceremony became both a fictional luxury campaign and an exploration of AI as a new cinematic medium. More than a technical experiment, it felt like learning an entirely new creative language.
